Project 798 - New Art In New China: A Documentary by Lucius C. Kuert
798 Art Zone - or Dashanzi Art District, is an area of Beijing that houses a thriving
community of artists among decommissioned military factory buildings of unique
architectural style.
The area is often called the 798 Art District or Factory 798 although technically,
Factory 798 is only one of many structures within the District.
In 2002, intellectual artist Huang Rui set up the '798 Space Gallery' establishing it as the
symbolic center of the district. 798's popularity has grown ever since and is now home
to scores of galleries, publishing houses, design companies, high-end fashion shops,
fancy cafes and restaurants.
